Design 111 - Project 2

So far this year my best project was “the joint”. As instructed by the brief I made a series of diagrams exploring the movement of my chosen joint – the finger. My next task was to make a model based on these diagrams. The use of wire in my model emphasises the movement and relates to the delicacy of the pencil lines in the diagram. Finally I made a series of drawings illustrating the different stages of the movement of my model. Overall I felt that my final model and drawing related well to each other and were both aesthetically pleasing and well crafted. One website that inspires me in my work is 2modern Design Talk which showcases and discusses interesting design from around the world.

Review

Well I have been working my way through the class list and I think I have now seen nearly everyone’s blog. I found a selection of great work and have been leaving comments on those I particularly liked, as well as on those who seemed to share my interests. I also replied to anyone who left a comment on my blog. I found it really encouraging to get positive feedback on my work from other students through these comments. The blogs that caught my eye the most were those that had really interesting and unique layouts and images. Some of my favourites were:

Stacey – she has some amazing work and an eye-catching header.

Max – there are alot of interesting things on this blog. I especially like the layout of his posts & his header.

Ariana - really nice layout, simple but effective. Her posts are interesting to read aswell.

Design111 - Project 2

The brief for this project was to draw a diagram to represent the movement of a joint, then to make a moving model based on this diagram and to represent this model in a working drawing. My joint for this project was the finger, and through diagrams I represented the movement of a finger beckoning from a front and side view, and also the movement of each of the fingers rotating and the relative difficulties of this movement. My model is based on the diagram of the side view of a finger beckoning, and was made out of a piece of recycled rimu, wire and nylon. My diagrams were quite delicate in their use of line and I represented this in my model through the use of wire to emphasise its movement. I then drew a series of drawings showing the movement of my model and also a side and top view of my model showing eleven steps of its movement. This project was successful as there is a clear link between my diagrams, my model and my working drawing and they show good composition and craft.
